Eye Tests

Eye Tests

Do you remember when an eye examination consisted only of being asked to read from a chart?

You will still have a full check of your ability to read figures both in the distance, and at a normal distance for reading although now the letters are created by a projector.

However, there is far more these days to an eye test than a simple vision check. We have a suite of equipment which examines the health of your eye in many different ways. For example our digital cameras take detailed images and 128 individual scans of the back of the eye which are effectively cross-sections through the retina and show up the structures of the back of the eye in incredibly fine detail.  It can then put all the scans together to produce a three dimensional image of the retina which allows us to see and understand much better the very fine changes which can be the indications of something going wrong.

The images are stored on our computer so we can look at them at your next eye examination to look for any trends or changes in the condition of your eyes.

These tests are included in our Premium Private eye examination and allow us to spot the early onset of various medical conditions such as glaucoma, macular degeneration or an incipient cataract.

This can also be added to a standard NHS sight test at a cost of £25 which we consider is a small price to pay for the reassurance that these extraordinary tests give.
